Urban sketching is the method of drawing a certain view from places around you.  Urban sketching is a different kind of way to discover your and other communities.  When urban sketchers draw they use it as a document to show that they have been there and seen something new.   Urban sketching is a good way to learn an environment that has always surrounded you.  I've learn while urban sketching many places and buildings that I have never come across. Living in the same city ever since you were born and seeing something that has always been there makes you want to go out and find other things you been missing out on.
